Change and progress and the red pithos

In a little village in Crete an old red pithos stands sentinel-like
at the foot of blue wooden shutters

Vainly trying to grow a rose bush.

Five years later,
in the little village in Crete the old red pithos still stands sentinel-like
at the foot of blue wooden shutters

Still vainly trying to grow the rose bush!
Change and progress are not always everything!

Incredible that 5 years have passed!
    I love the comparison.
Sure that psychologist / philosophers and others could write a thesis on the subject

Having very much enjoyed your posts over a long period, I feel it is now my turn to let you know how much I love and appreciate your sentiments, your colour and your photography. While I do not have a Blog, as I am not technically inclined, I certainly enjoy other peoples creativity. I too have been lucky enough to travel, and this along with my love of art, gardens and 'beautiful things' allows me to relate to your pages. Thank you Francesca.

I know – I think the soil in the pot had not been changed in five years – hence the stunted growth of the rose! Fx

Thank you Susie q – I am so pleased that my photos and stories connect with you. You should start a blog – you have many stories to tell about your travels and all the things you love. Keep well. F

What an incredible reminder of how slow paced and wonderful life can be in a Cretan villiage

Wonderful colours especially those old doorways …. I'm thinking of a name for it … maybe sage green but more weathered.
You're right about taking a little bit of a place away with us …. I find the more I travel … the more I dream of returning.
Thank you for dropping by my site & I look forward to reading more about your travels.

  • I love old cities, old villages and especially old parks full of ancient trees. These colours – the cold red and smoky blue – are so heartwarming ! Xcat

To this day, time does not exist in some villages which is so wonderful – long may it last! Fx
